Time Flies Accentisutta
At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
Standing to one side, that deity spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence: Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
“Time flies, nights pass by, “Accenti kālā tarayanti rattiyo, the stages of life leave us one by one. Vayoguṇā anupubbaṁ jahanti; Seeing this peril in death, Etaṁ bhayaṁ maraṇe pekkhamāno, do good deeds that bring you joy.” Puññāni kayirātha sukhāvahānī”ti.
