At AjakalÄpaka AjakalÄpakasutta
So I have heard. Evaį¹ me sutaį¹āAt one time the Buddha was staying in PÄvÄ at the AjakalÄpaka Shrine, the haunt of the native spirit AjakalÄpaka. ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ pÄvÄyaį¹ viharati ajakalÄpake cetiye, ajakalÄpakassa yakkhassa bhavane. Now at that time the Buddha was meditating in the open during the dark of night, while a gentle rain drizzled down. Tena kho pana samayena bhagavÄ rattandhakÄratimisÄyaį¹ abbhokÄse nisinno hoti; devo ca ekamekaį¹ phusÄyati. Then AjakalÄpaka, wanting to make the Buddha feel fear, terror, and goosebumps, approached him, and while not far away yelled three times, āGrr! Arrgh!ā Then he added, Atha kho ajakalÄpako yakkho bhagavato bhayaį¹ chambhitattaį¹ lomahaį¹saį¹ uppÄdetukÄmo yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹ kami; upasaį¹ kamitvÄ bhagavato avidÅ«re tikkhattuį¹ āakkulo pakkuloāti akkulapakkulikaį¹ akÄsi: āNow thatās a goblin for you, ascetic!ā āeso te, samaį¹a, pisÄcoāti.
Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha expressed this heartfelt sentiment: Atha kho bhagavÄ etamatthaį¹ viditvÄ tÄyaį¹ velÄyaį¹ imaį¹ udÄnaį¹ udÄnesi:
āWhen a brahmin gets over āYadÄ sakesu dhammesu, their own issues, pÄragÅ« hoti brÄhmaį¹o; they transcend this goblin Atha etaį¹ pisÄcaƱca, and his grunts.ā pakkulaƱcÄtivattatÄ«āti.
Sattamaį¹.
