Interior Sense Fields Ajjhattikāyatanasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these four noble truths. ā€œCattārimāni, bhikkhave, ariyasaccāni. What four? Katamāni cattāri? The noble truths of suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering. Dukkhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ, dukkhasamudayaṁ ariyasaccaṁ, dukkhanirodhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ, dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā ariyasaccaṁ.

And what is the noble truth of suffering? KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ? You should say: ā€˜The six interior sense fields’. ā€˜Cha ajjhattikāni āyatanānī’tissa vacanÄ«yaṁ. What six? Katamāni cha? The sense fields of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. Cakkhāyatanaṁ …pe… manāyatanaṁ—This is called the noble truth of suffering. ā€¦ā€ idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, dukkhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, dukkhasamudayaṁ ariyasaccaṁ? Yāyaṁ taṇhā ponobbhavikā nandirāgasahagatā tatratatrābhinandinÄ«, seyyathidaṁ—kāmataṇhā, bhavataṇhā, vibhavataṇhā—idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, dukkhasamudayaṁ ariyasaccaṁ.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, dukkhanirodhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ? Yo tassāyeva taṇhāya asesavirāganirodho cāgo paį¹­inissaggo mutti anālayo—idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, dukkhanirodhaṁ ariyasaccaṁ.

KatamaƱca, bhikkhave, dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā ariyasaccaṁ? Ayameva ariyo aį¹­į¹­haį¹…giko maggo, seyyathidaṁ—sammādiį¹­į¹­hi …pe… sammāsamādhi—idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā ariyasaccaṁ. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri ariyasaccāni.

Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaṁ dukkhan’ti yogo karaṇīyo …pe… ā€˜ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā’ti yogo karaṇīyoā€ti.
