āMendicants, an unethical person, who lacks ethics, has destroyed a vital condition for having no regrets. āDussÄ«lassa, bhikkhave, sÄ«lavipannassa hatÅ«paniso hoti avippaį¹isÄro. When there are regrets, one who has regrets has destroyed a vital condition for joy. Avippaį¹isÄre asati avippaį¹isÄravipannassa hatÅ«panisaį¹ hoti pÄmojjaį¹. When there is no joy, one who lacks joy has destroyed a vital condition for rapture. PÄmojje asati pÄmojjavipannassa hatÅ«panisÄ hoti pÄ«ti. When there is no rapture, one who lacks rapture has destroyed a vital condition for tranquility. PÄ«tiyÄ asati pÄ«tivipannassa hatÅ«panisÄ hoti passaddhi.
