Discontent Aratisutta
āMendicants, there are these three things. āTayome, bhikkhave, dhammÄ. What three? Katame tayo? Discontent, cruelty, and unprincipled conduct. Arati, vihiį¹sÄ, adhammacariyÄ. These are the three things. Ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo dhammÄ. To give up these three things you should develop three things. Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tiį¹į¹aį¹ dhammÄnaį¹ pahÄnÄya tayo dhammÄ bhÄvetabbÄ. What three? Katame tayo? You should develop rejoicing to give up discontent, harmlessness to give up cruelty, and principled conduct to give up unprincipled conduct. AratiyÄ pahÄnÄya muditÄ bhÄvetabbÄ, vihiį¹sÄya pahÄnÄya avihiį¹sÄ bhÄvetabbÄ, adhammacariyÄya pahÄnÄya dhammacariyÄ bhÄvetabbÄ. These are the three things you should develop to give up those three things.ā Imesaį¹ kho, bhikkhave, tiį¹į¹aį¹ dhammÄnaį¹ pahÄnÄya ime tayo dhammÄ bhÄvetabbÄāti.
