The Questions of Bhadrāvudha Bhadrāvudhamāṇavapucchā

“I beseech you, the bastion-leaver, the craving-cutter, the imperturbable,” “Okañjahaṁ taṇhacchidaṁ anejaṁ, said Venerable Bhadrāvudha, (iccāyasmā bhadrāvudho) “the delight-leaver, the flood-crosser, the freed, Nandiñjahaṁ oghatiṇṇaṁ vimuttaṁ; the formulation-leaver, the intelligent. Kappañjahaṁ abhiyāce sumedhaṁ, Different people have gathered <j>from across the nations Sutvāna nāgassa apanamissanti ito.

wishing to hear your word, O hero. Nānājanā janapadehi saṅgatā, After hearing the spiritual giant <j>they will depart from here. Tava vīra vākyaṁ abhikaṅkhamānā; Please, sage, answer them clearly, Tesaṁ tuvaṁ sādhu viyākarohi, for truly you understand this matter.” Tathā hi te vidito esa dhammo”.

“Dispel all craving for attachments,” “Ādānataṇhaṁ vinayetha sabbaṁ, replied the Buddha, (bhadrāvudhāti bhagavā “above, below, all round, between. Uddhaṁ adho tiriyañcāpi majjhe; For whatever a personage grasps in the world, Yaṁ yañhi lokasmimupādiyanti, Māra pursues them right there. Teneva māro anveti jantuṁ.

So let a mindful mendicant who understands Tasmā pajānaṁ na upādiyetha, not grasp anything in all the world, Bhikkhu sato kiñcanaṁ sabbaloke; observing that, in clinging to attachments, Ādānasatte iti pekkhamāno, these people cling to the domain of death.” Pajaṁ imaṁ maccudheyye visattan”ti.
