Fragile Bhidurasutta

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

ā€œThis body is fragile, mendicants, consciousness is liable to fade away, and all attachments are impermanent, suffering, and perishable.ā€ ā€œBhidurāyaṁ, bhikkhave, kāyo, viññāṇaṁ virāgadhammaṁ, sabbe upadhÄ« aniccā dukkhā vipariṇāmadhammāā€ti.

The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

ā€œKnowing that the body is fragile, ā€œKāyaƱca bhiduraṁ Ʊatvā, that consciousness is faded, ViññāṇaƱca virāgunaṁ; and seeing the danger in attachments, UpadhÄ«su bhayaṁ disvā, they go beyond birth and death. Jātimaraṇamaccagā; Having attained ultimate peace, Sampatvā paramaṁ santiṁ, evolved, they await their time.ā€ Kālaṁ kaį¹…khati bhāvitattoā€ti.

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Aṭṭhamaṁ.
