Loss Byasanasutta
āMendicants, there are these five losses. āPaƱcimÄni, bhikkhave, byasanÄni. What five? KatamÄni paƱca? Loss of relatives, wealth, health, ethics, and view. ĆÄtibyasanaį¹, bhogabyasanaį¹, rogabyasanaį¹, sÄ«labyasanaį¹, diį¹į¹hibyasanaį¹. It is not because of loss of relatives, wealth, or health that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell. Na, bhikkhave, sattÄ Ć±Ätibyasanahetu vÄ bhogabyasanahetu vÄ rogabyasanahetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä apÄyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipÄtaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapajjanti. It is because of loss of ethics or view that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell. SÄ«labyasanahetu vÄ, bhikkhave, sattÄ diį¹į¹hibyasanahetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä apÄyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipÄtaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapajjanti. These are the five losses. ImÄni kho, bhikkhave, paƱca byasanÄni.
There are these five endowments. PaƱcimÄ, bhikkhave, sampadÄ. What five? KatamÄ paƱca? Endowment with relatives, wealth, health, ethics, and view. ĆÄtisampadÄ, bhogasampadÄ, ÄrogyasampadÄ, sÄ«lasampadÄ, diį¹į¹hisampadÄ. It is not because of endowment with relatives, wealth, or health that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm. Na, bhikkhave, sattÄ Ć±ÄtisampadÄhetu vÄ bhogasampadÄhetu vÄ ÄrogyasampadÄhetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjanti. It is because of endowment with ethics or view that sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm. SÄ«lasampadÄhetu vÄ, bhikkhave, sattÄ diį¹į¹hisampadÄhetu vÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjanti. These are the five endowments.ā ImÄ kho, bhikkhave, paƱca sampadÄāti.
