Desire Chandasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these four kinds of mindfulness meditation. ā€œCattārome, bhikkhave, satipaį¹­į¹­hānā. What four? Katame cattāro? It’s when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the body—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kāye kāyānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. As they do so they give up desire for the body. Tassa kāye kāyānupassino viharato yo kāyasmiṁ chando so pahÄ«yati. When desire is given up they realize freedom from death. Chandassa pahānā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hoti.

They meditate observing an aspect of feelings—keen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world. Vedanāsu vedanānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. As they do so they give up desire for feelings. Tassa vedanāsu vedanānupassino viharato yo vedanāsu chando so pahÄ«yati. When desire is given up they realize freedom from death. Chandassa pahānā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hoti.

Dhammesu dhammānupassÄ« viharati ātāpÄ« sampajāno satimā, vineyya loke abhijjhādomanassaṁ. As they do so they give up desire for principles. Tassa dhammesu dhammānupassino viharato yo dhammesu chando so pahÄ«yati. When desire is given up they realize freedom from death.ā€ Chandassa pahānā amataṁ sacchikataṁ hotÄ«ā€ti.
