Defilements (2nd) DutiyaÄsavasutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, there are these three defilements. āTayome, bhikkhave, ÄsavÄ. What three? Katame tayo? The defilements of sensuality, desire to be reborn, and ignorance. KÄmÄsavo, bhavÄsavo, avijjÄsavoāThese are the three defilements.ā ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo ÄsavÄāti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āOne who has ended the defilement of sensuality, āYassa kÄmÄsavo khÄ«į¹o, whose ignorance has faded away, avijjÄ ca virÄjitÄ; and whose desire to be reborn is finishedāBhavÄsavo parikkhÄ«į¹o, liberated, free of attachments, vippamutto nirÅ«padhi; they bear their final body, DhÄreti antimaį¹ dehaį¹, having vanquished MÄra with his legions.ā jetvÄ mÄraį¹ savÄhinināti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
