Bad Conduct (2nd) Dutiyaduccaritasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these five drawbacks of bad conduct. ā€œPaƱcime, bhikkhave, ādÄ«navā duccarite. What five? Katame paƱca? You blame yourself. Attāpi attānaṁ upavadati; After examination, sensible people criticize you. anuvicca viññū garahanti; You get a bad reputation. pāpako kittisaddo abbhuggacchati; You drift away from true teachings. saddhammā vuį¹­į¹­hāti; You settle on untrue teachings. asaddhamme patiį¹­į¹­hāti. These are the five drawbacks of bad conduct. Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca ādÄ«navā duccarite.

There are these five benefits of good conduct. PaƱcime, bhikkhave, ānisaṁsā sucarite. What five? Katame paƱca? You don’t blame yourself. Attāpi attānaṁ na upavadati; After examination, sensible people praise you. anuvicca viññū pasaṁsanti; You get a good reputation. kalyāṇo kittisaddo abbhuggacchati; You drift away from untrue teachings. asaddhammā vuį¹­į¹­hāti; You settle on true teachings. saddhamme patiį¹­į¹­hāti. These are the five benefits of good conduct.ā€ Ime kho, bhikkhave, paƱca ānisaṁsā sucariteā€ti.
