Searches (2nd) DutiyaesanÄsutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, there are these three searches. āTisso imÄ, bhikkhave, esanÄ. What three? KatamÄ tisso? The search for sensual pleasures, the search for continued existence, and the search for a spiritual path. KÄmesanÄ, bhavesanÄ, brahmacariyesanÄāThese are the three searches.ā imÄ kho, bhikkhave, tisso esanÄāti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āThe search for sensual pleasures, for a good rebirth, āKÄmesanÄ bhavesanÄ, and the search for a spiritual path; brahmacariyesanÄ saha; the holding tight to the thought, āthis is the truthā, Iti saccaparÄmÄso, and the mass of grounds for viewsādiį¹į¹hiį¹į¹hÄnÄ samussayÄ.
for one detached from all lusts, SabbarÄgavirattassa, freed by the ending of craving, taį¹hakkhayavimuttino; that searching has been relinquished, EsanÄ paį¹inissaį¹į¹hÄ, and those viewpoints eradicated. diį¹į¹hiį¹į¹hÄnÄ samÅ«hatÄ; With the ending of searches, a mendicant EsanÄnaį¹ khayÄ bhikkhu, is free of hope and indecision.ā nirÄso akathaį¹ kathÄ«āti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
