Welfare of Others (2nd) Dutiyahitasutta
āMendicants, a mendicant with five qualities is practicing for the welfare of others, but not their own. āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu parahitÄya paį¹ipanno hoti, no attahitÄya. What five? Katamehi paƱcahi? Itās when a mendicant is not personally accomplished in ethics, immersion, wisdom, freedom, or the knowledge and vision of freedom. But they encourage others in these qualities. Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu attanÄ na sÄ«lasampanno hoti, paraį¹ sÄ«lasampadÄya samÄdapeti; attanÄ na samÄdhisampanno hoti, paraį¹ samÄdhisampadÄya samÄdapeti; attanÄ na paƱƱÄsampanno hoti, paraį¹ paƱƱÄsampadÄya samÄdapeti; attanÄ na vimuttisampanno hoti, paraį¹ vimuttisampadÄya samÄdapeti; attanÄ na vimuttiƱÄį¹adassanasampanno hoti, paraį¹ vimuttiƱÄį¹adassanasampadÄya samÄdapeti. A mendicant with these five qualities is practicing for the welfare of others, but not their own.ā Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu parahitÄya paį¹ipanno hoti, no attahitÄyÄāti.
