Three Trainings (2nd) Dutiyasikkhattayasutta
āMendicants, these are the three trainings. āTisso imÄ, bhikkhave, sikkhÄ. What three? KatamÄ tisso? The training in the higher ethics, the higher mind, and the higher wisdom. AdhisÄ«lasikkhÄ, adhicittasikkhÄ, adhipaƱƱÄsikkhÄ.
And what is the training in the higher ethics? KatamÄ ca, bhikkhave, adhisÄ«lasikkhÄ? Itās when a mendicant is ethical, restrained in the monastic code, conducting themselves well and resorting for alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, they keep the rules theyāve undertaken. Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sÄ«lavÄ hoti ā¦pe⦠samÄdÄya sikkhati sikkhÄpadesu. This is called the training in the higher ethics. Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, adhisÄ«lasikkhÄ.
And what is the training in the higher mind? KatamÄ ca, bhikkhave, adhicittasikkhÄ? Itās when a mendicant, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, enters and remains in the first absorption ⦠second absorption ⦠third absorption ⦠fourth absorption. Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu vivicceva kÄmehi ā¦pe⦠catutthaį¹ jhÄnaį¹ upasampajja viharati. This is called the training in the higher mind. Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, adhicittasikkhÄ.
And what is the training in the higher wisdom? KatamÄ ca, bhikkhave, adhipaƱƱÄsikkhÄ? Itās when a mendicant realizes the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life. And they live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements. Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharati. This is called the training in the higher wisdom. Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, adhipaƱƱÄsikkhÄ. These are the three trainings. ImÄ kho, bhikkhave, tisso sikkhÄti.
The higher ethics, the higher mind, AdhisÄ«laį¹ adhicittaį¹, and the higher wisdom should be practiced adhipaƱƱaƱca vÄ«riyavÄ; by those energetic, steadfast, and resolute, ThÄmavÄ dhitimÄ jhÄyÄ«, practicing absorption, mindful, with guarded senses. sato guttindriyo care.
As before, so behind; YathÄ pure tathÄ pacchÄ, as behind, so before. yathÄ pacchÄ tathÄ pure; As below, so above; YathÄ adho tathÄ uddhaį¹, as above, so below. yathÄ uddhaį¹ tathÄ adho.
As by day, so by night; YathÄ divÄ tathÄ rattiį¹, as by night, so by day. yathÄ rattiį¹ tathÄ divÄ; Having mastered every direction Abhibhuyya disÄ sabbÄ, with limitless immersion, appamÄį¹asamÄdhinÄ.
they call them a ātrainee on the pathā, TamÄhu sekhaį¹ paį¹ipadaį¹, and āone living a pure lifeā. atho saį¹suddhacÄriyaį¹; But a wise one who has gone to the end of the path TamÄhu loke sambuddhaį¹, they call a āBuddhaā in the world. dhÄ«raį¹ paį¹ipadantaguį¹.
With the cessation of consciousness, ViƱƱÄį¹assa nirodhena, freed by the ending of craving, taį¹hÄkkhayavimuttino; the liberation of their heart Pajjotasseva nibbÄnaį¹, is like a lamp going out.ā vimokkho hoti cetasoāti.
