The Simile of the Sun (2nd) Dutiyasūriyasutta
āMendicants, as long as the moon and the sun donāt arise in the world, no great light or great radiance appears. āYÄvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, candimasÅ«riyÄ loke nuppajjanti, neva tÄva mahato Älokassa pÄtubhÄvo hoti mahato obhÄsassa. Darkness prevails then, utter darkness. Andhatamaį¹ tadÄ hoti andhakÄratimisÄ. Day and night arenāt found, nor months and fortnights, nor seasons and years. Neva tÄva rattindivÄ paƱƱÄyanti, na mÄsaddhamÄsÄ paƱƱÄyanti, na utusaį¹vaccharÄ paƱƱÄyanti.
But when the moon and the sun arise in the world, a great light, a great radiance appears. Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, candimasÅ«riyÄ loke uppajjanti, atha mahato Älokassa pÄtubhÄvo hoti mahato obhÄsassa. Darkness no longer prevails. Neva andhakÄratamaį¹ tadÄ hoti na andhakÄratimisÄ. Day and night are found, and months and fortnights, and seasons and years. Atha rattindivÄ paƱƱÄyanti, mÄsaddhamÄsÄ paƱƱÄyanti, utusaį¹vaccharÄ paƱƱÄyanti.

Evameva kho, bhikkhave, yÄvakÄ«vaƱca tathÄgato loke nuppajjati arahaį¹ sammÄsambuddho, neva tÄva mahato Älokassa pÄtubhÄvo hoti mahato obhÄsassa. Darkness prevails then, utter darkness. Andhatamaį¹ tadÄ hoti andhakÄratimisÄ. Thereās no explanation of the four noble truths, no teaching, advocating, establishing, clarifying, analyzing, and revealing of them. Neva tÄva catunnaį¹ ariyasaccÄnaį¹ Äcikkhaį¹Ä hoti desanÄ paƱƱÄpanÄ paį¹į¹hapanÄ vivaraį¹Ä vibhajanÄ uttÄnÄ«kammaį¹.

The noble truths of suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path. Dukkhassa ariyasaccassa ā¦pe⦠dukkhanirodhagÄminiyÄ paį¹ipadÄya ariyasaccassa.
Thatās why you should practice meditation ā¦ā TasmÄtiha, bhikkhave, āidaį¹ dukkhanāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yo ā¦pe⦠āayaį¹ dukkhanirodhagÄminÄ« paį¹ipadÄāti yogo karaį¹Ä«yoāti.
