The Gotamaka Shrine Gotamakacetiyasutta
At one time the Buddha was staying near VesÄlÄ«, at the Gotamaka Shrine. Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ vesÄliyaį¹ viharati gotamake cetiye. There the Buddha addressed the mendicants, Tatra kho bhagavÄ bhikkhÅ« Ämantesi: āMendicants!ā ābhikkhavoāti.
āVenerable sir,ā they replied. āBhadanteāti te bhikkhÅ« bhagavato paccassosuį¹. The Buddha said this: BhagavÄ etadavoca:
āMendicants, I teach based on direct knowledge, not without direct knowledge. āAbhiƱƱÄyÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, dhammaį¹ desemi, no anabhiƱƱÄya. I teach with reasons, not without them. SanidÄnÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, dhammaį¹ desemi, no anidÄnaį¹. I teach with a demonstrable basis, not without it. SappÄį¹ihÄriyÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, dhammaį¹ desemi, no appÄį¹ihÄriyaį¹. Since this is so, you should follow my advice and instruction. Tassa mayhaį¹, bhikkhave, abhiƱƱÄya dhammaį¹ desayato no anabhiƱƱÄya, sanidÄnaį¹ dhammaį¹ desayato no anidÄnaį¹, sappÄį¹ihÄriyaį¹ dhammaį¹ desayato no appÄį¹ihÄriyaį¹, karaį¹Ä«yo ovÄdo, karaį¹Ä«yÄ anusÄsanÄ«. This is enough for you to feel joyful, delighted, and happy: AlaƱca pana vo, bhikkhave, tuį¹į¹hiyÄ, alaį¹ attamanatÄya, alaį¹ somanassÄya: āThe Blessed One is a fully awakened Buddha! The teaching is well explained! The Saį¹ gha is practicing well!āā āsammÄsambuddho bhagavÄ, svÄkkhÄto dhammo, suppaį¹ipanno saį¹ ghoāāti.
That is what the Buddha said. Idamavoca bhagavÄ. Satisfied, the mendicants approved what the Buddha said. AttamanÄ te bhikkhÅ« bhagavato bhÄsitaį¹ abhinandunti. And while this discourse was being spoken, the thousandfold galaxy shook. ImasmiƱca pana veyyÄkaraį¹asmiį¹ bhaƱƱamÄne sahassÄ« lokadhÄtu akampitthÄti.
