Guttā Guttātherīgāthā

Guttā, you have given up your child, “Gutte yadatthaṁ pabbajjā, your wealth, and all that you love. hitvā puttaṁ vasuṁ piyaṁ; Foster the goal for which you went forth; Tameva anubrūhehi, do not fall under the mind’s control. mā cittassa vasaṁ gami.

Beings deceived by the mind, Cittena vañcitā sattā, playing in Māra’s domain, mārassa visaye ratā; ignorant, they journey on, Anekajātisaṁsāraṁ, transmigrating through countless rebirths. sandhāvanti aviddasū.

Sensual desire and ill will, Kāmacchandañca byāpādaṁ, and substantialist view; sakkāyadiṭṭhimeva ca; misapprehension of precepts and observances, Sīlabbataparāmāsaṁ, and doubt as the fifth. vicikicchañca pañcamaṁ.

O nun, when you have given up Saṁyojanāni etāni, these lower fetters, pajahitvāna bhikkhunī; you won’t come back Orambhāgamanīyāni, to this world again. nayidaṁ punarehisi.

And when you’re rid of desire, Rāgaṁ mānaṁ avijjañca, conceit, ignorance, and restlessness, uddhaccañca vivajjiya; having cut the fetters, Saṁyojanāni chetvāna, you’ll make an end to suffering. dukkhassantaṁ karissasi.

Having wiped out transmigration, Khepetvā jātisaṁsāraṁ, and fully understood rebirth, pariññāya punabbhavaṁ; hungerless in this very life, Diṭṭheva dhamme nicchātā, you will live at peace. upasantā carissatī”ti.
