Conscientious Companionship Hirisutta

Flouting conscience, loathing it, Hiriṁ tarantaṁ vijigucchamānaṁ, saying “I’m on your side”, Tavāhamasmi iti bhāsamānaṁ; but not following up in deeds—Sayhāni kammāni anādiyantaṁ, know they’re not on your side. Neso mamanti iti naṁ vijaññā.

Some say nice things to their friends Ananvayaṁ piyaṁ vācaṁ, without following it up. yo mittesu pakubbati; The wise will recognize Akarontaṁ bhāsamānaṁ, one who talks without doing. parijānanti paṇḍitā.

No true friend relentlessly Na so mitto yo sadā appamatto, suspects betrayal, looking for fault. Bhedāsaṅkī randhamevānupassī; One on whom you rest, like a child on the breast, Yasmiñca seti urasīva putto, is a true friend, not split from you by others. Sa ve mitto yo parehi abhejjo.

One whose reward is the fruit Pāmujjakaraṇaṁ ṭhānaṁ, of bearing the burden of service pasaṁsāvahanaṁ sukhaṁ; develops a happy state, Phalānisaṁso bhāveti, producing joy and attracting praise. vahanto porisaṁ dhuraṁ.

One who has drunk the nectar of seclusion Pavivekarasaṁ pitvā, and the nectar of peace, Rasaṁ upasamassa ca; free of stress, free of evil, Niddaro hoti nippāpo, drinks the joyous nectar of Dhamma. Dhammapītirasaṁ pivanti.
