Sources of Deeds Kammanidānasutta

ā€œMendicants, I say that killing living creatures is threefold: ā€œPāṇātipātampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that stealing is threefold: Adinnādānampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that sexual misconduct is threefold: Kāmesumicchācārampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that lying is threefold: Musāvādampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that divisive speech is threefold: Pisuṇavācampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that harsh speech is threefold: Pharusavācampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that talking nonsense is threefold: Samphappalāpampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that covetousness is threefold: Abhijjhampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that ill will is threefold: Byāpādampāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi.

I say that wrong view is threefold: Micchādiį¹­į¹­himpāhaṁ, bhikkhave, tividhaṁ vadāmi—caused by greed, hate, or delusion. lobhahetukampi, dosahetukampi, mohahetukampi. And so greed, hate, and delusion are sources and origins for deeds. Iti kho, bhikkhave, lobho kammanidānasambhavo, doso kammanidānasambhavo, moho kammanidānasambhavo. With the ending of greed, hate, and delusion, the sources of deeds are ended.ā€ Lobhakkhayā kammanidānasaį¹…khayo, dosakkhayā kammanidānasaį¹…khayo, mohakkhayā kammanidānasaį¹…khayoā€ti.
