Anger Kodhasutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, give up one thing āEkadhammaį¹, bhikkhave, pajahatha; and I guarantee you non-return. ahaį¹ vo pÄį¹ibhogo anÄgÄmitÄya. What one thing? Katamaį¹ ekadhammaį¹? Anger is the one thing. Give it up, Kodhaį¹, bhikkhave, ekadhammaį¹ pajahatha; and I guarantee you non-return.ā ahaį¹ vo pÄį¹ibhogo anÄgÄmitÄyÄāti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āWhen overcome by anger āYena kodhena kuddhÄse, beings go to a bad place. sattÄ gacchanti duggatiį¹; Having rightly understood that anger, Taį¹ kodhaį¹ sammadaƱƱÄya, the discerning give it up. pajahanti vipassino; Once theyāve given it up, PahÄya na punÄyanti, they never return to this world.ā imaį¹ lokaį¹ kudÄcananāti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
