Kosiya Kosiyattheragāthā

Whatever attentive one, <j>understanding their teacher’s words, “Yo ve garūnaṁ vacanaññu dhīro, stays with them, their fondness growing; Vase ca tamhi janayetha pemaṁ; that astute person is indeed devoted—So bhattimā nāma ca hoti paṇḍito, knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished. Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.

When extreme stresses arise, Yaṁ āpadā uppatitā uḷārā, one who does not tremble, but reflects instead, Nakkhambhayante paṭisaṅkhayantaṁ; that astute person is indeed strong—So thāmavā nāma ca hoti paṇḍito, knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished. Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.

Steady as the ocean, imperturbable, Yo ve samuddova ṭhito anejo, their wisdom is deep, they see the subtle meaning; Gambhīrapañño nipuṇatthadassī; that astute person is indeed unfaltering—Asaṁhāriyo nāma ca hoti paṇḍito, knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished. Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.

They’re very learned, <j>and have memorized the teaching, Bahussuto dhammadharo ca hoti, living in line with the teaching—Dhammassa hoti anudhammacārī; that astute person is indeed such—So tādiso nāma ca hoti paṇḍito, knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished. Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assa.

They know the meaning of what is said, Atthañca yo jānāti bhāsitassa, and act accordingly; Atthañca ñatvāna tathā karoti; that astute person is indeed a master of meaning—Atthantaro nāma sa hoti paṇḍito, knowing the teachings, they’re distinguished. Ñatvā ca dhammesu visesi assā”ti.

Rājadatto subhūto ca, girimānandasumanā; Vaḍḍho ca kassapo thero, gayākassapavakkalī.

Vijito yasadatto ca, soṇo kosiyasavhayo; Saṭṭhi ca pañca gāthāyo, therā ca ettha dvādasāti.
