The Boy’s Questions Kumārapañhā

What is the one? Ekaṁ nāma kiṁ? All sentient beings are sustained by food. Sabbe sattā āhāraṭṭhitikā.

What is the two? Dve nāma kiṁ? Name and form. Nāmañca rūpañca.

What is the three? Tīṇi nāma kiṁ? Three feelings. Tisso vedanā.

What is the four? Cattāri nāma kiṁ? Four noble truths. Cattāri ariyasaccāni.

What is the five? Pañca nāma kiṁ? Five grasping aggregates. Pañcupādānakkhandhā.

What is the six? Cha nāma kiṁ? Six interior sense fields. Cha ajjhattikāni āyatanāni.

What is the seven? Satta nāma kiṁ? Seven awakening factors. Satta bojjhaṅgā.

What is the eight? Aṭṭha nāma kiṁ? The noble eightfold path. Ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo.

What is the nine? Nava nāma kiṁ? Nine abodes of sentient beings. Nava sattāvāsā.

What is the ten? Dasa nāma kiṁ? One endowed with ten factors is called “perfected”. Dasahaṅgehi samannāgato “arahā”ti vuccatīti.
