Pots Kumbhasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

ā€œA pot without a stand is easy to overturn, but if it has a stand it’s hard to overturn. ā€œSeyyathāpi, bhikkhave, kumbho anādhāro suppavattiyo hoti, sādhāro duppavattiyo hoti; In the same way, a mind without a stand is easy to overturn, but if it has a stand it’s hard to overturn. evameva kho, bhikkhave, cittaṁ anādhāraṁ suppavattiyaṁ hoti, sādhāraṁ duppavattiyaṁ hoti.

And what’s the stand for the mind? Ko ca, bhikkhave, cittassa ādhāro? It is simply this noble eightfold path, that is: Ayameva ariyo aį¹į¹haį¹…giko maggo, seyyathidaṁ—right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion. sammādiį¹į¹hi …pe… sammāsamādhi. This is the stand for the mind. Ayaṁ cittassa ādhāro.

A pot without a stand is easy to overturn, but if it has a stand it’s hard to overturn. Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, kumbho anādhāro suppavattiyo hoti, sādhāro duppavattiyo hoti; In the same way, a mind without a stand is easy to overturn, but if it has a stand it’s hard to overturn.ā€ evameva kho, bhikkhave, cittaṁ anādhāraṁ suppavattiyaṁ hoti, sādhāraṁ duppavattiyaṁ hotÄ«ā€ti.

Sattamaṁ.
