The Questions of Mogharāja Mogharājamāṇavapucchā

“Twice I have asked the Sakyan,” “Dvāhaṁ sakkaṁ apucchissaṁ, said Venerable Mogharāja, (iccāyasmā mogharājā) “but you haven’t answered me, O Clear-eyed One. Na me byākāsi cakkhumā; I have heard that the divine seer Yāvatatiyañca devīsi, answers when questioned a third time. Byākarotīti me sutaṁ.

Regarding this world, the other world, Ayaṁ loko paro loko, and the realm of divinity with its gods, brahmaloko sadevako; I’m not familiar with the view Diṭṭhiṁ te nābhijānāti, of the renowned Gotama. gotamassa yasassino.

So I have come seeking with a question Evaṁ abhikkantadassāviṁ, for the one of excellent vision. atthi pañhena āgamaṁ; How to look upon the world Kathaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, so the King of Death won’t see you?” maccurājā na passati”.

“Look upon the world as empty, “Suññato lokaṁ avekkhassu, Mogharāja, ever mindful. Mogharāja sadā sato; Having uprooted the theory of self, Attānudiṭṭhiṁ ūhacca, you may thus cross over death. Evaṁ maccutaro siyā; That’s how to look upon the world Evaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, so the King of Death won’t see you.” Maccurājā na passatī”ti.
