Nadīkassapa Nadīkassapattheragāthā

It was truly for my benefit “Atthāya vata me buddho, that the Buddha went to the river Nerañjara. nadiṁ nerañjaraṁ agā; When I heard his teaching, Yassāhaṁ dhammaṁ sutvāna, I shunned wrong view. micchādiṭṭhiṁ vivajjayiṁ.

I used to perform a diverse spectrum of sacrifices; Yajiṁ uccāvace yaññe, I served the sacred flame, aggihuttaṁ juhiṁ ahaṁ; imagining, “This is purity.” ‘Esā suddhī’ti maññanto, I was a blind, ordinary person. andhabhūto puthujjano.

Caught in the thicket of wrong view, Diṭṭhigahanapakkhando, deluded by misapprehension. parāmāsena mohito; Thinking impurity was purity, Asuddhiṁ maññisaṁ suddhiṁ, I was blind and ignorant. andhabhūto aviddasu.

I’ve abandoned wrong view; Micchādiṭṭhi pahīnā me, all rebirths are shattered. bhavā sabbe padālitā; I serve the fire for those <j>worthy of a religious donation: Juhāmi dakkhiṇeyyaggiṁ, I bow to the Realized One. namassāmi tathāgataṁ.

I’ve given up all delusion; Mohā sabbe pahīnā me, craving for continued existence is shattered; bhavataṇhā padālitā; transmigration through births is finished; Vikkhīṇo jātisaṁsāro, now there’ll be no more future lives. natthi dāni punabbhavo”ti.
