With Nandivisāla Nandivisālasutta

Standing to one side, the godling Nandivisāla addressed the Buddha in verse: Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho nandivisālo devaputto bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:

“Four are its wheels, and nine its doors; “Catucakkaṁ navadvāraṁ, it’s stuffed full, bound with greed, puṇṇaṁ lobhena saṁyutaṁ; and born from a bog. Paṅkajātaṁ mahāvīra, Great hero, how will I keep going?” kathaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.

“Having cut the strap and harness—“Chetvā naddhiṁ varattañca, wicked desire and greed—icchālobhañca pāpakaṁ; and having plucked out craving, root and all: Samūlaṁ taṇhamabbuyha, that’s how you will keep going.” evaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti.
