Recommended by the Astute Paṇḍitasutta

“Mendicants, these three things are recommended by astute true persons. “Tīṇimāni, bhikkhave, paṇḍitapaññattāni sappurisapaññattāni. What three? Katamāni tīṇi? Giving, Dānaṁ, bhikkhave, paṇḍitapaññattaṁ sappurisapaññattaṁ. going forth, Pabbajjā, bhikkhave, paṇḍitapaññattā sappurisapaññattā. and taking care of your mother and father. Mātāpitūnaṁ, bhikkhave, upaṭṭhānaṁ paṇḍitapaññattaṁ sappurisapaññattaṁ. These are the three things recommended by astute true persons. Imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi paṇḍitapaññattāni sappurisapaññattānīti.

The virtuous recommend giving, Sabbhi dānaṁ upaññattaṁ, harmlessness, restraint, and self-control; ahiṁsā saṁyamo damo; caring for mother and father, Mātāpitu upaṭṭhānaṁ, and peaceful spiritual practitioners. santānaṁ brahmacārinaṁ.

These are the things recommended by the good, Sataṁ etāni ṭhānāni, which the astute should cultivate. yāni sevetha paṇḍito; A noble one, having vision, Ariyo dassanasampanno, will enjoy a world of grace.” sa lokaṁ bhajate sivan”ti.
