A Pure Mind Pasannacittasutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹:
āMendicants, when Iāve comprehended the mind of an individual whose mind is pure, I understand: āIdhÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, ekaccaį¹ puggalaį¹ pasannacittaį¹ evaį¹ cetasÄ ceto paricca pajÄnÄmi: āIf this individual were to die right now, they would be raised up to heaven.ā āimamhi cÄyaį¹ samaye puggalo kÄlaį¹ kareyya yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ saggeā. Why is that? Taį¹ kissa hetu? Because their mind is pure. Cittaį¹ hissa, bhikkhave, pasannaį¹. Purity of mind is the reason why some sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.ā CetopasÄdahetu kho pana, bhikkhave, evamāidhekacce sattÄ kÄyassa bhedÄ paraį¹ maraį¹Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjantÄ«āti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati:
āKnowing an individualās āPasannacittaṠñatvÄna, pure mind, ekaccaį¹ idha puggalaį¹; the Buddha explained this matter EtamatthaƱca byÄkÄsi, in the mendicantsā presence. buddho bhikkhÅ«na santike.
If that individual Imamhi cÄyaį¹ samaye, were to die at this time, kÄlaį¹ kayirÄtha puggalo; theyād be reborn in heaven, Sugatiį¹ upapajjeyya, for their mind is pure. cittaį¹ hissa pasÄditaį¹.
That sort is raised up as surely YathÄ haritvÄ nikkhipeyya, as if theyād been carried and put there. evamevaį¹ tathÄvidho; For purity of mind is the reason CetopasÄdahetu hi, sentient beings go to a good place.ā sattÄ gacchanti suggatināti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti.
