Paṭācārā Paṭācārātherīgāthā

Plowing the fields, “Naṅgalehi kasaṁ khettaṁ, sowing seeds in the ground, bījāni pavapaṁ chamā; providing for partners and children, Puttadārāni posentā, young men acquire wealth. dhanaṁ vindanti māṇavā.

I am accomplished in ethics, Kimahaṁ sīlasampannā, and I do the Teacher’s bidding, satthusāsanakārikā; being neither lazy nor restless—Nibbānaṁ nādhigacchāmi, why then do I not achieve quenching? akusītā anuddhatā.

Having washed my feet, Pāde pakkhālayitvāna, I took note of the water, udakesu karomahaṁ; seeing the foot-washing water Pādodakañca disvāna, flowing from high ground to low. thalato ninnamāgataṁ.

My mind became serene, Tato cittaṁ samādhesiṁ, like a fine thoroughbred steed. assaṁ bhadraṁvajāniyaṁ; Then, taking a lamp, Tato dīpaṁ gahetvāna, I entered my dwelling, vihāraṁ pāvisiṁ ahaṁ; inspected the bed, Seyyaṁ olokayitvāna, and sat on my cot. mañcakamhi upāvisiṁ.

Then, grabbing the pin, Tato sūciṁ gahetvāna, I drew out the wick. vaṭṭiṁ okassayāmahaṁ; The liberation of my heart Padīpasseva nibbānaṁ, was like the quenching of the lamp. vimokkho ahu cetaso”ti.
