The Brahmin Life (1st) Paṭhamabrahmaññasutta
At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
“Mendicants, I will teach you life as a brahmin and the fruits of life as a brahmin. “Brahmaññañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, brahmaññaphalāni ca. Listen … Taṁ suṇātha.
And what is life as a brahmin? Katamañca kho, bhikkhave, brahmaññaṁ? It is simply this noble eightfold path, that is: Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṁ—right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion. sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi. This is called life as a brahmin. Idaṁ vuccati, bhikkhave, brahmaññaṁ.
And what are the fruits of life as a brahmin? Katamāni ca, bhikkhave, brahmaññaphalāni? The fruits of stream-entry, once-return, non-return, and perfection. Sotāpattiphalaṁ, sakadāgāmiphalaṁ, anāgāmiphalaṁ, arahattaphalaṁ—These are called the fruits of life as a brahmin.” imāni vuccanti, bhikkhave, brahmaññaphalānī”ti.
Sattamaṁ.
