Eight Individuals (1st) Paį¹­hamapuggalasutta

ā€œMendicants, these eight individuals are worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with joined palms, and are the supreme field of merit for the world. ā€œAį¹­į¹­hime, bhikkhave, puggalā āhuneyyā pāhuneyyā dakkhiṇeyyā aƱjalikaraṇīyā anuttaraṁ puƱƱakkhettaṁ lokassa? What eight? Katame aį¹­į¹­ha? The stream-enterer and the one practicing to realize the fruit of stream-entry. The once-returner and the one practicing to realize the fruit of once-return. The non-returner and the one practicing to realize the fruit of non-return. The perfected one, and the one practicing for perfection. Sotāpanno, sotāpattiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹­ipanno, sakadāgāmÄ«, sakadāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹­ipanno, anāgāmÄ«, anāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹­ipanno, arahā, arahattāya paį¹­ipanno. These are the eight individuals who are worthy of offerings dedicated to the gods, worthy of hospitality, worthy of a religious donation, worthy of greeting with joined palms, and are the supreme field of merit for the world. Ime kho, bhikkhave, aį¹­į¹­ha puggalā āhuneyyā …pe… anuttaraṁ puƱƱakkhettaṁ lokassāti.

Four practicing the path, Cattāro ca paį¹­ipannā, and four established in the fruit. cattāro ca phale į¹­hitā; This is the upright Saį¹…gha, Esa saį¹…gho ujubhÅ«to, with wisdom, ethics, and immersion. paƱƱāsÄ«lasamāhito.

For humans, those merit-seeking creatures, Yajamānānaṁ manussānaṁ, who sponsor sacrifices, PuƱƱapekkhāna pāṇinaṁ; making worldly merit, Karotaṁ opadhikaṁ puƱƱaṁ, what is given to the Saį¹…gha is very fruitful.ā€ Saį¹…ghe dinnaṁ mahapphalanā€ti.
