Feelings (1st) Paṭhamavedanāsutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
“Mendicants, there are these three feelings. “Tisso imā, bhikkhave, vedanā. What three? Katamā tisso? Pleasant, painful, and neutral feeling. Sukhā vedanā, dukkhā vedanā, adukkhamasukhā vedanā—These are the three feelings.” imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso vedanā”ti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“Stilled, aware, “Samāhito sampajāno, a mindful disciple of the Buddha sato buddhassa sāvako; understands feelings, Vedanā ca pajānāti, the cause of feelings, vedanānañca sambhavaṁ.
where they cease, Yattha cetā nirujjhanti, and the path that leads to their ending. maggañca khayagāminaṁ; With the ending of feelings, a mendicant Vedanānaṁ khayā bhikkhu, is hungerless, quenched.” nicchāto parinibbuto”ti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
Tatiyaṁ.
