Practicing Paį¹ipannasutta

ā€œMendicants, there are these five faculties. ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. What five? Katamāni paƱca? The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom. Saddhindriyaṁ …pe… paƱƱindriyaṁ—These are the five faculties. imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcindriyāni.

Someone who has completed and fulfilled these five faculties is a perfected one. If they are weaker than that, they’re practicing to realize the fruit of perfection … a non-returner … practicing to realize the fruit of non-return … a once-returner … practicing to realize the fruit of once-return … a stream-enterer … practicing to realize the fruit of stream-entry. Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaṁ indriyānaṁ samattā paripÅ«rattā arahaṁ hoti, tato mudutarehi arahattaphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹ipanno hoti, tato mudutarehi anāgāmÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi anāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹ipanno hoti, tato mudutarehi sakadāgāmÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi sakadāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹ipanno hoti, tato mudutarehi sotāpanno hoti, tato mudutarehi sotāpattiphalasacchikiriyāya paį¹ipanno hoti. Someone who totally and utterly lacks these five faculties is an outsider who belongs with the ordinary persons, I say.ā€ Yassa kho, bhikkhave, imāni paƱcindriyāni sabbena sabbaṁ sabbathā sabbaṁ natthi, tamahaṁ ā€˜bāhiro puthujjanapakkhe į¹hito’ti vadāmÄ«ā€ti.
