At Sālā Sālasutta

So I have heard. Evaṁ me sutaṁ—At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Kosalans near the brahmin village of Sālā. ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā kosalesu viharati sālāya brāhmaṇagāme. There the Buddha addressed the mendicants: Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhÅ« āmantesi: ā€œMendicants, the lion, king of beasts, is said to be the best of animals in terms of strength, speed, and courage. ā€œseyyathāpi, bhikkhave, ye keci tiracchānagatā pāṇā, sÄ«ho migarājā tesaṁ aggamakkhāyati, yadidaṁ—thāmena javena sÅ«rena; In the same way, the faculty of wisdom is said to be the best of the qualities that lead to awakening in terms of becoming awakened. evameva kho, bhikkhave, ye keci bodhipakkhiyā dhammā, paƱƱindriyaṁ tesaṁ aggamakkhāyati, yadidaṁ—bodhāya.

And what are the qualities that lead to awakening? Katame ca, bhikkhave, bodhipakkhiyā dhammā? The faculties of faith, Saddhindriyaṁ, bhikkhave, bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati; energy, vÄ«riyindriyaṁ bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati; mindfulness, satindriyaṁ bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati; immersion, samādhindriyaṁ bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati; and wisdom are qualities that lead to awakening, in that they lead to becoming awakened. paƱƱindriyaṁ bodhipakkhiyo dhammo, taṁ bodhāya saṁvattati. Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, ye keci tiracchānagatā pāṇā, sÄ«ho migarājā tesaṁ aggamakkhāyati, yadidaṁ—thāmena javena sÅ«rena; In the same way, the faculty of wisdom is said to be the best of the qualities that lead to awakening in terms of becoming awakened.ā€ evameva kho, bhikkhave, ye keci bodhipakkhiyā dhammā, paƱƱindriyaṁ tesaṁ aggamakkhāyati, yadidaṁ—bodhāyÄā€ti.
