Harmony in the Saṅgha Saṅghasāmaggīsutta
This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:
“One thing, mendicants, arises in the world for the welfare and happiness of the people, for the people, for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans. “Ekadhammo, bhikkhave, loke uppajjamāno uppajjati bahujanahitāya bahujanasukhāya bahuno janassa atthāya hitāya sukhāya devamanussānaṁ. What one thing? Katamo ekadhammo? Harmony in the Saṅgha. Saṅghasāmaggī. When the Saṅgha is in harmony, they don’t argue, insult, block, or forsake each other. Saṅghe kho pana, bhikkhave, samagge na ceva aññamaññaṁ bhaṇḍanāni honti, na ca aññamaññaṁ paribhāsā honti, na ca aññamaññaṁ parikkhepā honti, na ca aññamaññaṁ pariccajanā honti. This inspires confidence in those without it, and increases confidence in those who have it.” Tattha appasannā ceva pasīdanti, pasannānañca bhiyyobhāvo hotī”ti.
The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:
“A Saṅgha in harmony is happy, “Sukhā saṅghassa sāmaggī, as is support for those in harmony. samaggānañcanuggaho; Taking a stand on the teaching, Samaggarato dhammaṭṭho, favoring harmony, they ruin no sanctuary. yogakkhemā na dhaṁsati; After creating harmony in the Saṅgha, Saṅghaṁ samaggaṁ katvāna, they rejoice in heaven for an eon.” kappaṁ saggamhi modatī”ti.
This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.
Navamaṁ.
