Origin Samudayasutta

ā€œMendicants, I will teach you the origin and the ending of the four kinds of mindfulness meditation. ā€œCatunnaṁ, bhikkhave, satipaį¹­į¹­hānānaṁ samudayaƱca atthaį¹…gamaƱca desessāmi. Listen … Taṁ suṇātha.

And what is the origin of the body? Ko ca, bhikkhave, kāyassa samudayo? The body originates from fuel. Āhārasamudayā kāyassa samudayo; When fuel ceases, the body ends. āhāranirodhā kāyassa atthaį¹…gamo.

Feelings originate from contact. Phassasamudayā vedanānaṁ samudayo; When contact ceases, feelings end. phassanirodhā vedanānaṁ atthaį¹…gamo.

The mind originates from name and form. NāmarÅ«pasamudayā cittassa samudayo; When name and form cease, the mind ends. nāmarÅ«panirodhā cittassa atthaį¹…gamo.

Principles originate from application of mind. Manasikārasamudayā dhammānaṁ samudayo; When application of mind ends, principles end.ā€ manasikāranirodhā dhammānaṁ atthaį¹…gamoā€ti.
