Inspiring All Around: the Peaceful Liberations Santavimokkhasutta
āA mendicant is faithful, but not ethical. ⦠āSaddho ca, bhikkhave, bhikkhu hoti, no ca sÄ«lavÄ ā¦pe⦠theyāre not learned. ⦠sÄ«lavÄ ca, no ca bahussuto ⦠theyāre not a Dhamma speaker ⦠bahussuto ca, no ca dhammakathiko ⦠they donāt frequent assemblies ⦠dhammakathiko ca, no ca parisÄvacaro ⦠they donāt teach Dhamma to the assembly with assurance ⦠parisÄvacaro ca, no ca visÄrado parisÄya dhammaį¹ deseti ⦠theyāre not an expert in the training ⦠visÄrado ca parisÄya dhammaį¹ deseti, no ca vinayadharo ⦠they donāt stay in the wilderness, in remote lodgings ⦠vinayadharo ca, no ca ÄraƱƱiko pantasenÄsano ⦠they donāt have direct meditative experience of the peaceful liberations that are formless, transcending form ⦠ÄraƱƱiko ca pantasenÄsano, no ca ye te santÄ vimokkhÄ atikkamma rÅ«pe ÄruppÄ te kÄyena phusitvÄ viharati ⦠they donāt realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements. ye te santÄ vimokkhÄ atikkamma rÅ«pe ÄruppÄ te ca kÄyena phusitvÄ viharati, no ca ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharati. When theyāre faithful, ethical, and learned, a Dhamma speaker, one who frequents assemblies, one who teaches Dhamma to the assembly with assurance, an expert in the monastic law, one who lives in the wilderness, in remote lodgings, one who gets the formless liberations, and one who lives having realized the ending of defilements, Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu saddho ca hoti, sÄ«lavÄ ca, bahussuto ca, dhammakathiko ca, parisÄvacaro ca, visÄrado ca parisÄya dhammaį¹ deseti, vinayadharo ca, ÄraƱƱiko ca pantasenÄsano, ye te santÄ vimokkhÄ atikkamma rÅ«pe ÄruppÄ te ca kÄyena phusitvÄ viharati, ÄsavÄnaƱca khayÄ anÄsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱÄvimuttiį¹ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharati; theyāre complete in that respect. evaį¹ so tenaį¹ gena paripÅ«ro hoti. A mendicant who possesses these ten qualities is impressive all around, and is complete in every respect.ā Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dasahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu samantapÄsÄdiko ca hoti sabbÄkÄraparipÅ«ro cÄāti.
