Sāṭimattiya Sāṭimattiyattheragāthā

In the past you had faith, “Ahu tuyhaṁ pure saddhā, today you have none. sā te ajja na vijjati; What’s yours is yours alone—Yaṁ tuyhaṁ tuyhamevetaṁ, I’ve done nothing wrong. natthi duccaritaṁ mama.

Faith is impermanent, fickle: Aniccā hi calā saddhā, or so I have seen. evaṁ diṭṭhā hi sā mayā; Passions wax and wane: Rajjantipi virajjanti, why would a sage waste away on that account? tattha kiṁ jiyyate muni.

The meal of a sage is cooked Paccati munino bhattaṁ, bit by bit in this family or that. Thokaṁ thokaṁ kule kule; I’ll walk for alms, Piṇḍikāya carissāmi, for my legs are strong. Atthi jaṅghabalaṁ mamā”ti.
