Purity Soceyyasutta

This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard. Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ:

ā€œMendicants, there are these three kinds of purity. ā€œTīṇimāni, bhikkhave, soceyyāni. What three? Katamāni tīṇi? Purity of body, speech, and mind. Kāyasoceyyaṁ, vacÄ«soceyyaṁ, manosoceyyaṁ—These are the three kinds of purity.ā€ imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi soceyyānÄ«ā€ti.

The Buddha spoke this matter. Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. On this it is said: Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati:

ā€œPurity of body, purity of speech, ā€œKāyasuciṁ vacÄ«suciṁ, and undefiled purity of heart. cetosucimanāsavaṁ; A pure one, blessed with purity, Suciṁ soceyyasampannaṁ, has given up everything, they say.ā€ āhu sabbappahāyinanā€ti.

This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard. Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti.

Sattamaṁ.
