Soṇā Soṇātherīgāthā

I gave birth to ten sons “Dasa putte vijāyitvā, in this form, this bag of bones. asmiṁ rūpasamussaye; Then, when feeble and old, Tatohaṁ dubbalā jiṇṇā, I approached a nun. bhikkhuniṁ upasaṅkamiṁ.

She taught me the Dhamma: Sā me dhammamadesesi, the aggregates, sense fields, and elements. khandhāyatanadhātuyo; When I heard her teaching, Tassā dhammaṁ suṇitvāna, I shaved off my hair and went forth. kese chetvāna pabbajiṁ.

When I was a trainee nun, Tassā me sikkhamānāya, my clairvoyance was clarified, dibbacakkhu visodhitaṁ; and I knew my past lives, Pubbenivāsaṁ jānāmi, the places I used to live. yattha me vusitaṁ pure.

I meditate on the signless, Animittañca bhāvemi, my mind unified and serene. ekaggā susamāhitā; I achieved the immediate liberation, Anantarāvimokkhāsiṁ, quenched by not grasping. anupādāya nibbutā.

The five aggregates are fully understood; Pañcakkhandhā pariññātā, they remain, but their root is cut. tiṭṭhanti chinnamūlakā; Curse you, wretched old age! Dhi tavatthu jare jamme, now there’ll be no more future lives. natthi dāni punabbhavo”ti.
