A Stream-Enterer Sotāpannasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

When Venerable Rādha was seated to one side, the Buddha said to him: Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho āyasmantaṁ rādhaṁ bhagavā etadavoca:

ā€œRādha, there are these five grasping aggregates. ā€œpaƱcime, rādha, upādānakkhandhā. What five? Katame paƱca? The grasping aggregates of form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness. RÅ«pupādānakkhandho …pe… viññāṇupādānakkhandho. When a noble disciple truly understands these five grasping aggregates’ origin, disappearance, gratification, drawback, and escape, Yato kho, rādha, ariyasāvako imesaṁ paƱcannaṁ upādānakkhandhānaṁ samudayaƱca atthaį¹…gamaƱca assādaƱca ādÄ«navaƱca nissaraṇaƱca yathābhÅ«taṁ pajānāti—they’re called a noble disciple who is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.ā€ ayaṁ vuccati, rādha, ariyasāvako sotāpanno avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyanoā€ti.
