With Sujāta Sujātasutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati.

Then Venerable Sujāta went to see the Buddha. Atha kho āyasmā sujāto yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami.

The Buddha saw him coming off in the distance, Addasā kho bhagavā āyasmantaṁ sujātaṁ dÅ«ratova āgacchantaṁ. and addressed the mendicants: Disvāna bhikkhÅ« āmantesi: ā€œThis gentleman shines in both ways. ā€œubhayenevāyaṁ, bhikkhave, kulaputto sobhati—He’s attractive, good-looking, lovely, of surpassing beauty. And he has realized the supreme end of the spiritual path in this very life. He lives having achieved with his own insight the goal for which gentlemen rightly go forth from the lay life to homelessness.ā€ yaƱca abhirÅ«po dassanÄ«yo pāsādiko paramāya vaṇṇapokkharatāya samannāgato, yassa catthāya kulaputtā sammadeva agārasmā anagāriyaṁ pabbajanti tadanuttaraṁ brahmacariyapariyosānaṁ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaṁ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharatÄ«ā€ti.

That is what the Buddha said. Idamavoca bhagavā …pe… Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say: satthā:

ā€œThis mendicant truly shines. ā€œSobhati vatāyaṁ bhikkhu, His heart is upright, ujubhÅ«tena cetasā; he’s unfettered, detached, Vippayutto visaṁyutto, quenched by not grasping. anupādāya nibbuto; He bears his final body, Dhāreti antimaṁ dehaṁ, having vanquished Māra with his legions.ā€ jetvā māraṁ savāhininā€ti.
