The Boarās Cave SÅ«karakhatasutta
At one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha, on the Vultureās Peak Mountain in the Boarās Cave. Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati gijjhakÅ«į¹e pabbate sÅ«karakhatÄyaį¹. Then the Buddha said to Venerable SÄriputta: Tatra kho bhagavÄ Äyasmantaį¹ sÄriputtaį¹ Ämantesi:
āSÄriputta, considering what benefit does a mendicant with defilements ended, while still alive, continue to act with utmost deference for the Realized One or his instructions?ā ākiį¹ nu kho, sÄriputta, atthavasaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti?
āSir, it is considering the supreme sanctuary from the yoke that a mendicant with defilements ended, while still alive, continues to act with utmost deference for the Realized One or his instructions.ā āAnuttaraƱhi, bhante, yogakkhemaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti.
āGood, good, SÄriputta! āSÄdhu sÄdhu, sÄriputta. For it is considering the supreme sanctuary from the yoke that a mendicant whose defilements are ended, while still alive, continues to act with utmost deference for the Realized One or his instructions. AnuttaraƱhi, sÄriputta, yogakkhemaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattati.
And what is that supreme sanctuary from the yoke?ā Katamo ca, sÄriputta, anuttaro yogakkhemo yaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti?
āItās when a mendicant with defilements ended develops the faculties of faith, āIdha, bhante, khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu saddhindriyaį¹ bhÄveti upasamagÄmiį¹ sambodhagÄmiį¹, energy, vÄ«riyindriyaį¹ bhÄveti ā¦pe⦠mindfulness, satindriyaį¹ bhÄveti ⦠immersion, samÄdhindriyaį¹ bhÄveti ⦠and wisdom, which lead to peace and awakening. paƱƱindriyaį¹ bhÄveti upasamagÄmiį¹ sambodhagÄmiį¹. It is considering this supreme sanctuary from the yoke that a mendicant with defilements ended, while still alive, continues to act with utmost deference for the Realized One or his instructions.ā Ayaį¹ kho, bhante, anuttaro yogakkhemo yaį¹ sampassamÄno khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti.

āItās when a mendicant with defilements ended maintains respect and reverence for the Teacher, the teaching, the Saį¹ gha, the training, and immersion. āIdha, bhante, khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu satthari sagÄravo viharati sappatisso, dhamme sagÄravo viharati sappatisso, saį¹ ghe sagÄravo viharati sappatisso, sikkhÄya sagÄravo viharati sappatisso, samÄdhismiį¹ sagÄravo viharati sappatisso. This is that utmost deference.ā Ayaį¹ kho, bhante, paramanipaccakÄro yaį¹ khÄ«į¹Äsavo bhikkhu tathÄgate vÄ tathÄgatasÄsane vÄ paramanipaccakÄraį¹ pavattamÄno pavattatÄ«āti.
