Adorned with jewelry and all dressed up, “Alaṅkatā suvasanā, with her garland and her makeup on, māladhārī vibhūsitā; and her feet so brightly rouged: Alattakakatāpādā, the courtesan was wearing slippers. pādukāruyha vesikā.

Taking off her slippers in front of me, Pādukā oruhitvāna, her palms joined in greeting, purato pañjalīkatā; smiling, she spoke to me Sā maṁ saṇhena mudunā, so softly and so sweet: mhitapubbaṁ abhāsatha.

“You’re too young to go forth—Yuvāsi tvaṁ pabbajito, come, stay in my teaching! tiṭṭhāhi mama sāsane; Enjoy human sensual pleasures, Bhuñja mānusake kāme, I’ll give you riches. ahaṁ vittaṁ dadāmi te; I promise this is the truth—Saccaṁ te paṭijānāmi, I swear it by the Sacred Flame. aggiṁ vā te harāmahaṁ.

And when we’ve grown old together, Yadā jiṇṇā bhavissāma, both of us leaning on staffs, ubho daṇḍaparāyanā; we shall both go forth, Ubhopi pabbajissāma, and hold a perfect hand on both counts.” ubhayattha kaṭaggaho.

I saw the courtesan seducing me, Tañca disvāna yācantiṁ, her palms joined in greeting, vesikaṁ pañjalīkataṁ; adorned with jewelry and all dressed up, Alaṅkataṁ suvasanaṁ, like a snare of death laid down. maccupāsaṁva oḍḍitaṁ.

Then the realization Tato me manasīkāro, came upon me—… pe the danger became clear … and I grew firmly disillusioned. nibbidā samatiṭṭhatha.

Then my mind was freed—Tato cittaṁ vimucci me, see the excellence of the Dhamma! … pe I’ve attained the three knowledges, … and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions. kataṁ buddhassa sāsanan”ti.
