Sutasoma’s Conduct Sutasomacariya

ā€œThen again when I was ā€œPunāparaṁ yadā homi, Sutasoma, Lord of the Earth, sutasomo mahÄ«pati; captured by a cannibal Gahito porisādena, I remembered my promise to a brahmin. brāhmaṇe saį¹…garaṁ sariṁ.

A hundred aristocrat warriors Khattiyānaṁ ekasataṁ, he strung up by their hands . āvuṇitvā karattale; Having drained their blood, Etesaṁ pamilāpetvā, he brought me for sacrifice. yaƱƱatthe upanayÄ« mamaṁ.

The cannibal asked me, Apucchi maṁ porisādo, ā€˜What do you wish for—release? ā€˜kiṁ tvaṁ icchasi nissajaṁ; I shall act as you think, Yathāmati te kāhāmi, so long as you will return.’ yadi me tvaṁ punehisi’.

I promised him that I Tassa paį¹­issuṇitvāna, would return at dawn. paṇhe āgamanaṁ mama; I went to the delightful city Upagantvā puraṁ rammaṁ, and then renounced kingship. rajjaṁ niyyādayiṁ tadā.

Recollecting the true Dhamma, Anussaritvā sataṁ dhammaṁ, fostered by former Victors, pubbakaṁ jinasevitaṁ; I gave money to the brahmin, Brāhmaṇassa dhanaṁ datvā, and returned to the cannibal. porisādaṁ upāgamiṁ.

I had no doubt Natthi me saṁsayo tattha, that he was going to kill me. Ghātayissati vā na vā; Protecting my truthful speech, Saccavācānurakkhanto, I went to give up my life. JÄ«vitaṁ cajitumupāgamiṁ; There is no-one to equal my truthfulness: Saccena me samo natthi, this is my perfection of truth.ā€ Esā me saccapāramÄ«ā€ti.
