Uttarapāla Uttarapālattheragāthā

I was, indeed, an astute scholar, “Paṇḍitaṁ vata maṁ santaṁ, competent to think on the meaning. alamatthavicintakaṁ; The five kinds of sensual stimulation in the world, Pañca kāmaguṇā loke, so delusory, were my downfall. sammohā pātayiṁsu maṁ.

Leaping into Māra’s domain, Pakkhando māravisaye, I was struck by a powerful dart. daḷhasallasamappito; But I was able to free myself Asakkhiṁ maccurājassa, from the trap laid by the King of Death. ahaṁ pāsā pamuccituṁ.

I have given up all sensual pleasures; Sabbe kāmā pahīnā me, all rebirths are shattered; bhavā sabbe padālitā; transmigration through births is finished; Vikkhīṇo jātisaṁsāro, now there’ll be no more future lives. natthi dāni punabbhavo”ti.
