Uttara (1st) Uttarattheragāthā
No life is permanent, “Natthi koci bhavo nicco, and no conditions last forever. saṅkhārā vāpi sassatā; The aggregates are reborn Uppajjanti ca te khandhā, and pass away, again and again. cavanti aparāparaṁ.
Knowing this danger, Etamādīnavaṁ ñatvā, I have no need for another life. bhavenamhi anatthiko; I’ve escaped all sensual pleasures, Nissaṭo sabbakāmehi, and attained the ending of defilements. patto me āsavakkhayo”ti.
That is how these verses were recited by the senior venerable Uttara. Itthaṁ sudaṁ āyasmā uttaro thero gāthāyo abhāsitthāti.
