Get Up! Uṭṭhānasutta
Get up and meditate! Uṭṭhahatha nisīdatha, What’s the point in your sleeping? ko attho supitena vo; How can the afflicted slumber Āturānañhi kā niddā, when inflicted by an arrow strike? sallaviddhāna ruppataṁ.
Get up and meditate! Uṭṭhahatha nisīdatha, Train hard for peace! Daḷhaṁ sikkhatha santiyā; The King of Death has caught you heedless—Mā vo pamatte viññāya, don’t let him fool you under his sway. Maccurājā amohayittha vasānuge.
Needy gods and humans Yāya devā manussā ca, are held back by clinging: sitā tiṭṭhanti atthikā; get over it. Tarathetaṁ visattikaṁ, Don’t let the moment pass you by. khaṇo vo mā upaccagā; For if you miss your moment Khaṇātītā hi socanti, you’ll grieve when sent to hell. nirayamhi samappitā.
Negligence is always dust; Pamādo rajo pamādo, dust follows right behind negligence. Pamādānupatito rajo; Through diligence and knowledge, Appamādena vijjāya, pluck out the dart from yourself. Abbahe sallamattanoti.
