Vaḍḍha’s Mother Vaḍḍhamātutherīgāthā
“Vaḍḍha, please never ever “Mā su te vaḍḍha lokamhi, get snarled in the world. vanatho āhu kudācanaṁ; My child, do not partake Mā puttaka punappunaṁ, in suffering again and again. ahu dukkhassa bhāgimā.
For happy dwell the sages, Vaḍḍha, Sukhañhi vaḍḍha munayo, unstirred, their doubts cut off, anejā chinnasaṁsayā; cooled and tamed, Sītibhūtā damappattā, and free of defilements. viharanti anāsavā.
Vaḍḍha, foster the path Tehānuciṇṇaṁ isībhi, that the seers have walked, maggaṁ dassanapattiyā; for the attainment of vision, Dukkhassantakiriyāya, and for making an end of suffering.” tvaṁ vaḍḍha anubrūhaya”.
“Mother, you speak with such assurance “Visāradāva bhaṇasi, to me on this matter. etamatthaṁ janetti me; My dear mom, I can’t help thinking Maññāmi nūna māmike, that no snarls are found in you.” vanatho te na vijjati”.
“Vaḍḍha, not a jot or a skerrick “Ye keci vaḍḍha saṅkhārā, of entanglement is found in me hīnā ukkaṭṭhamajjhimā; for any conditions at all, Aṇūpi aṇumattopi, whether low, high, or middling. vanatho me na vijjati.
All defilements are ended for me, Sabbe me āsavā khīṇā, meditating and diligent. appamattassa jhāyato; I’ve attained the three knowledges Tisso vijjā anuppattā, and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.” kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ”.
“Oh so excellent was the goad “Uḷāraṁ vata me mātā, my mother spurred me with! patodaṁ samavassari; Owing to her compassion, she spoke Paramatthasañhitā gāthā, verses on the ultimate goal. yathāpi anukampikā.
On hearing her words, Tassāhaṁ vacanaṁ sutvā, advised by my mother, anusiṭṭhiṁ janettiyā; I was struck with righteous urgency Dhammasaṁvegamāpādiṁ, for the sake of sanctuary from the yoke. yogakkhemassa pattiyā.
Striving, resolute, Sohaṁ padhānapahitatto, tireless all day and night, rattindivamatandito; urged on by my mother, Mātarā codito santo, I realized supreme peace. aphusiṁ santimuttamaṁ”.
