Verocana, Lord of Titans Verocanaasurindasutta
Near SÄvatthÄ« in Jetaās Grove. SÄvatthiyaį¹ jetavane.
Now at that time the Buddha had gone into retreat for the dayās meditation. Tena kho pana samayena bhagavÄ divÄvihÄragato hoti paį¹isallÄ«no.
Then Sakka, lord of gods, and Verocana, lord of titans, approached the Buddha and stationed themselves one by each door-post. Atha kho sakko ca devÄnamindo verocano ca asurindo yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹ kamiį¹su; upasaį¹ kamitvÄ paccekaį¹ dvÄrabÄhaį¹ nissÄya aį¹į¹haį¹su. Then Verocana spoke this verse in the Buddhaās presence: Atha kho verocano asurindo bhagavato santike imaį¹ gÄthaį¹ abhÄsi:
āA man should make an effort āVÄyametheva puriso, until his goal is accomplished. yÄva atthassa nipphadÄ; A goal is splendid when accomplishedāNipphannasobhano attho, this is the word of Verocana!ā verocanavaco idanāti.
āA man should make an effort āVÄyametheva puriso, until his goal is accomplished. yÄva atthassa nipphadÄ; For the goal thatās splendid when accomplished, Nipphannasobhano attho, naught better than patience is found.ā khantyÄ bhiyyo na vijjatÄ«āti.
āAll beings are in need, āSabbe sattÄ atthajÄtÄ, as they deserve in each case. tattha tattha yathÄrahaį¹; But even so, harnessed work is the highest Saį¹yogaparamÄ tveva, thing of value for all living creatures. sambhogÄ sabbapÄį¹inaį¹; A goal is splendid when accomplishedāNipphannasobhano attho, this is the word of Verocana!ā verocanavaco idanāti.
